I’m a Montreal based award winning photographer who’s part artist, part digital nomad with a pinch of business woman.Whether you are looking for more creativity, prosperity or freedom, I’ll teach you how to make stock photography your superpower

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]After training under Yuri Arcurs at PeopleImages in South Africa and Denmark, I launched my own little production company; As You Are Images from my mom’s guest bedroom in Montreal.

Although I was confidant in my skills as a photographer, I needed to teach myself everything about running a photography business to truly be a success. I worked my butt off, learned a lot along the way, and that’s how AYA became a success.

Now, I have a business that allows me to do meaningful projects that spark my creativity and gives back to the community. And still travel at least three months out of the year!

I can do this because of my consistent passive revenue stream through the licensing my photography to images banks. Stock photography a great way to leverage your talent to build a business that lets you lead the life you want.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row row_type=”parallax” header_style=”light” parallax_content_width=”full_width” anchor=”juliebio” text_align=”left” full_screen_section_height=”no” css=”.vc_custom_1543447648392{background-image: url(https://www.asyouareimages.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Untitled-2.jpg?id=1008) !important;}” el_class=”our-values-section”][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1532436904422{padding-right: 10% !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;padding-left: 10% !important;}”]As the founder of AsYouAre Images, I specialize in commercial lifestyle photography, making a consistent full-time passive income through the licensing my images on stock photography agency sites.  I don’t have a fancy car or mansion, but I do have an abundant life – travelling 3 months per year, taking time off without guilt to spend friends and family.

Yes, it’s true – I make my complete living from passive revenue while enjoying a semi-retired lifestyle.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” type=”full_width” text_align=”left” css_animation=”” css=”.vc_custom_1539373192446{padding-right: 10% !important;padding-left: 10% !important;}”][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”2884″ img_size=”full” qode_css_animation=”” css=”.vc_custom_1532436915067{padding-top: 15px !important;}”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1532436875309{padding-left: 25px !important;}”]But I didn’t always have this business…

Flashback to 2011: Freshly divorced, after 4 years living abroad, I had moved back to Canada and was living with my mom….at the age of 32. I had no clue what I was going to do next, but having worked in product design and marketing, I knew that a corporate life was not for me.
What I had developed was an appreciation for photography. My ex was a photographer, and I worked as a the creative director on his shoots. It’s through this that I first learned about generating passive income through stock photography.
Back in Canada, I had an old camera but no training as a photographer. What I did have was an eye for the visual, a drive to work smarter and a whole lot of moxy.
I decided to build on my knowledge of photography by signing up for Yuri Arcurs’ stock photography bootcamp. Thanks to my hard-work I placed 5th out of 120 participants in this program.
That’s how I got an internship with PeopleImages. For 8 months, I lived in South Africa and Denmark, working with professional models, producers and retouchers learning how to take great pictures with a great support team (here’s my first portfolio).[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” type=”full_width” text_align=”left” css_animation=””][vc_column_inner][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” type=”full_width” text_align=”left” css_animation=”” css=”.vc_custom_1539373065525{padding-right: 10% !important;padding-left: 10% !important;}”][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1532434960163{padding-bottom: 10px !important;}”]Now a trained photographer, I had once again moved back into my mom’s guest room… at 33 years old (insert trombone sound here).  Although I had developed my photography skills during the internship, I quickly realized that without a team supporting me I would need to build my business skills as solo entrepreneur.

This meant jumping-in feet first and doing everything that needed to be done to make stock photography work for me.

Photography from the heart

Let’s talk about the values of my company. When I founded As You Are Images in 2014, I wanted to be surrounded by positive, kickass collaborators. That’s why the AsYouAre crew is made up of me (wearing many hats)  and passionate, loving, and creative freelancers – no fuss, no divas! Sometimes, it’s just me at my home office but on bigger projects, there’s a positive, energetic team, working together to create images with soul.

AYA Images mostly produces stock photography shoots, but we also work with charities and local small businesses who are looking for authentic, natural light photography.

Focusing on stock photography seems like a non-traditional route to professional photography. Nevertheless, I have found that producing my own photoshoots gives me a ton of freedom and the ability to work with quality clients. By focussing on creativity and spontaneity, I’ve created a community built on trust, care, and laughter.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” type=”full_width” text_align=”left” css_animation=””][vc_column_inner][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern” z_index=””][vc_column][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” type=”full_width” text_align=”left” css_animation=””][vc_column_inner][qode_carousel carousel=”about” number_of_visible_items=”five_items”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”grid” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern” z_index=””][vc_column][vc_column_text]One of the founding beliefs I built into my business is  that the images that I distribute have an impact on those who see them. That’s why I pride myself on producing responsible imagery.

Authenticity: We work with real people of all ethnicities and age in real environments.

Real bodies: We don’t work with underweight models because we believe that they don’t represent a healthy standard for viewers

Ethical retouching: We NEVER alter body shapes. We do remove temporary imperfections like stray hair or pimples, but we believe that shapes and expression lines are part of the human charm, wouldn’t you agree?[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern” padding_top=”40″ padding_bottom=”70″ css=”.vc_custom_1536346654564{margin-bottom: 30px !important;padding-top: 60px !important;padding-bottom: 60px !important;}” z_index=”” el_id=”givingBack”][vc_column css=”.vc_custom_1498331361002{padding-bottom: 20px !important;background-image: url(https://www.asyouareimages.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/photobar.jpg?id=1533) !important;}”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1522998655776{padding-bottom: 40px !important;}”]
